Meet The Team
Jamyle Cannon | Founder, Executive Director
My eyes were opened to the impact of inequality when I was 8 years old. I moved from a well-resourced school to a school in a low-income area, and I immediately noticed the difference in expectations. I didn't understand it at the time, but that moment left me with a notion that something profoundly unfair was happening in my life. That notion has been confirmed, and it has guided my life since.
I received a Bachelors Degree in Social Work from the University of Kentucky. After winning the National Collegiate Boxing Championship in 2009 and deciding to end my boxing career, I committed to fighting education inequality by joining Teach for America. After 2 years in the TFA Corps in Phoenix, I moved to Chicago to help start DRW College Prep. While there, I started a boxing club in my classroom. That program grew in size and services until, in the fall of 2016, I launched The Bloc.
